The final products of the Vermont IDU.
They really came out great. After doing this project for 5 years, I may venture to say this is the best I have ever seen them. Now comes the hard part--the grading.
The team had decided to give students individual assignment scores for their project, reported in the gradebook individually. Originally we thought to just lump the project scores into the averages of the transferable skills, but in the end it just didn't feel right to do that. Their project scores will still influence their transferable skill scores of Self Direction and Clear and Effective Communication, but they will also have their own scores out of 20.
This is the rubric we used to score individual projects. I downloaded a pdf version into my trusty
Notability app and went to grading each project. When I was done grading one project, I emailed the pdf to the student, cleared the page, and started on the next one. I was able to get through my "case group" of students pretty quickly. In the future, I will make sure there is an assignment on Schoology for the final project. That way I can send the document there, where I can also add feedback and add the scores to the mastery tracker and the Schoology gradebook.

Schoology also made it easier to score each piece of the assignment. There were a total of eleven due dates. Each student would submit evidence to a specific due date assignment in Schoology. This submission would be time stamped, allowing me to know if they submitted their work early or late (students set their own due dates).
Each project also required a six paragraph research paper. Because the students completed the entire writing process using Google Docs, I am able to go back and check their revision histories to see how much they have improved.
Finally, it was time to present their work. Every year, Team Extreme puts on an Open House for parents. The parents come in and go through a gallery of student work. This year, the Open House was the same night as our final Student-led Conferences. This allowed all of the students on team to share their IDU work with their parents as well as go through all of the other great things they have completed and documented on their PLP sites.
